Tell us about your background:Trained in Interior Design, art was always going to be part of my career, but after studying Small Business Management Hey Stella was born and art became my life!
Tell us about what you create:I paint, draw, rub, stick, assemble, scratch back and paint over - mostly on canvas or paper, sometimes on furniture or found objects. Whatever I do there is a richness of colour and texture and always a story in there somewhere. I create art that is never boring.
What made you start making your pieces?:
Growing up creative and longing for rainy Friday craft-a-noons at school I got serious about my art one Mothers Day about 10yrs ago. I needed a gift and went about painting furiously all day. It felt great - freeing - and all that warm and fuzzy stuff. And my mum loved it!

What materials do you use?:I'm a bit of a rule breaker - perhaps in retaliation to my drafting days - so anything goes. I love the pace of working with acrylics; I love the tactile quality of fabrics and papers; the mess of paint sticks and charcoal; and the finality of thick semi gloss varnish! I also think an unframed canvas looks clean and contemporary hung or leaning on the wall so I rarely frame anything.
Tell us about your creative process?:It's a little sporadic. It either has to be complete silence and calm or absurdly loud and wild. I definitely have to be in 'the mood.' And when the mood strikes I'll have to start 20 things at once and not stop until they’re all finished or I can no longer tell what colour I'm using!
Why did you choose in.cube8r?:in.cube8r was a bit of a milestone for me. It meant that I was 'taking my career seriously,' that I was 'putting myself out there.' I thought the in.cube8r concept was too good an opportunity to not be a part of. I sold a painting every month for the first three months of Mosman been open and am proud to be here amongst so much creative vibrancy.

What is your inspiration/influences?:There is art everywhere, even where you least expect it and so much inspiration to soak up. Instead of taking photographs of something that catches my interest I’ll usually just absorb the feeling of it. I'll walk with it and see if it stays with me. I'll write down words or phrases that conjure it more clearly. And then I'll paint it out. It might all happen in a matter of minutes or it may take months before an inspiration becomes something tangible. I don’t like to present something with one obvious influence, but rather a collection of layers.
