I heart Hen's.

This weekend I'm packing my bags and taking the long drive I love from Port Macquarie to the Gold Coast for a friends Hen's. The sheer mention of the word Hen's should induce the usual pole dancing and pink hummer images. And rest assured they are both included in this very overdue girly weekend! Throw in a little wine tour to loosen the limbs and dancing late into the night to complete the deliciously cliched event. Oh how I love a good cliche - I CANNOT wait!

Undoubtedly, pictures will ensue...no doubt reading like one of those picture flipper books where the stick figure ends up stacked in a crumpled mess on the last page! The question is will that be MOI?!!

Of course, this would be the sensible option...for you can expect no penis straws or strippers at my Hen's.

At least, that's what they all say!

Here's a peek at my new dancing dress from The Future of Frances Watson. Yummy!

ciao

An Interview with the Artist

For in.cube8r.com.au

Tell us about your background:Trained in Interior Design, art was always going to be part of my career, but after studying Small Business Management Hey Stella was born and art became my life!

Tell us about what you create:I paint, draw, rub, stick, assemble, scratch back and paint over - mostly on canvas or paper, sometimes on furniture or found objects. Whatever I do there is a richness of colour and texture and always a story in there somewhere. I create art that is never boring.

What made you start making your pieces?:
Growing up creative and longing for rainy Friday craft-a-noons at school I got serious about my art one Mothers Day about 10yrs ago. I needed a gift and went about painting furiously all day. It felt great - freeing - and all that warm and fuzzy stuff. And my mum loved it!

What materials do you use?:I'm a bit of a rule breaker - perhaps in retaliation to my drafting days - so anything goes. I love the pace of working with acrylics; I love the tactile quality of fabrics and papers; the mess of paint sticks and charcoal; and the finality of thick semi gloss varnish! I also think an unframed canvas looks clean and contemporary hung or leaning on the wall so I rarely frame anything.

Tell us about your creative process?:It's a little sporadic. It either has to be complete silence and calm or absurdly loud and wild. I definitely have to be in 'the mood.' And when the mood strikes I'll have to start 20 things at once and not stop until they’re all finished or I can no longer tell what colour I'm using!

Why did you choose in.cube8r?:in.cube8r was a bit of a milestone for me. It meant that I was 'taking my career seriously,' that I was 'putting myself out there.' I thought the in.cube8r concept was too good an opportunity to not be a part of. I sold a painting every month for the first three months of Mosman been open and am proud to be here amongst so much creative vibrancy.
Where else can we find you?:
Online:
In Person:
In.cube8r Gallery – Shop 7, 3-5 Myahgah Mews, Mosman, 2088
i heart gallery - 643 King Street, St Peters, 2044
Gemelli Estate Cellar Door - 168 Palmers Lane, Pokolbin, NSW 2320
Riot on William – William St, Port Macquarie, NSW, 2444

What is your inspiration/influences?:There is art everywhere, even where you least expect it and so much inspiration to soak up. Instead of taking photographs of something that catches my interest I’ll usually just absorb the feeling of it. I'll walk with it and see if it stays with me. I'll write down words or phrases that conjure it more clearly. And then I'll paint it out. It might all happen in a matter of minutes or it may take months before an inspiration becomes something tangible. I don’t like to present something with one obvious influence, but rather a collection of layers.

Heading to Hunter

Soo excited about my first weekend away from running two computer shops in 12mths! And all the better that it is for MY OWN creative pursuit - taking a dozen gorgeous paintings down to Gemelli Estate in the Hunter Valley for their newly refurbished gallery/cellar space!

Even the trip down shall be delightful.
Don't you get that urge sometimes (if you live in a regional area most probably) to just hit the highway and keep driving? I just love it!

Will have pictures on our return. Happy weekend y'all x
